On Saturday evening, December 7, 2024 HHS gathered at Spaghetti Western on N Shepherd for our annual Christmas Dinner and Gift Exchange. This year HHS members brought special guests and chose their meals from the menu at the restaurant. 34 individuals attended and we had a lively gift exchange afterwards.
Even before we got down to the "main course", the 2024 recipient of the Bertha Cone Award was announced, and plaque presented. Katharine Breaux received the award this year for her unbounded and ever present service to HHS. For years she has served as second vice president of HHS, editor of the annual HHS yearbook, Chairperson of Hospitality of Judges at the Daylily Show, and has assumed a miriad of behind-the-scenes jobs each year which keep HHS alive and growing. All of us at HHS thank you, Katharine, for all continually do! Kudos to YOU!
Plans for our 2025 Daylily Show and Sale have been finalized. The show & sale will be held on May 10th, 2025 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church, 4040 Watonga Blvd, Houston TX. Sale hours are 8 am to 3 pm and the show will be open to the public (free) from 1 pm to 3 pm. One new addition to this year's show is a photography section. Categories will be single daylily, two daylilies, daylily clumps, garden scenes, and "Daylilies and Critters". Photography sections are being added to shows all around the country and have been quite popular with the public. Please help us spread the word about our show to the public!
Our next meeting will be on Thursday January 23rd 2025 at our usual location, the Cherie Flores Garden Pavilion at McGovern Centennial Gardens. As always, guests are welcome so come on by and join us!
